OtterTune will be attending Pycon2022, An event for community members developing open-source Python programing. This booth design will be presented in Salt Lake City on April 28th. The purpose of this design is to inform people about who and what OtterTune is.
There will be many companies at Pycon2022 who will position themselves as having database management capabilities. However, OtterTune stands out by leading with their database tuning capabilities in addition to database management. OtterTune likes to deliver information about their brand in a fun, relatable way. DJ OT frequents OtterTune's social media by giving his commentary on otter news and company updates. Adding DJ OT to this design was extremely important to giving a visual identity to OtterTune both online and IRL. OtterTune logos were added to both the backdrop and the podium as an H1 heading. In this design we skipped over an H2 heading and went straight for an H3 that reads:"Let machine learning optimize your database performance. Save time, Reduce cloud costs, Improve performance".
This design went through many different color concepts before finalizing the images seen above.
These two images were the first to be produced and pulled a lot of key elements from OtterTune's homepage. Ultimately the text made it too crowded and too unified. If ether of these images were to sit in a conference space, they would blend in rather than stand out.
These images solved the issue of standing out but still felt crowded. The goal of this booth space is to welcome people and make them want to interact with the OtterTune staff.
We finally landed on these two images. These concepts solved the issue of standing out and the issue of spacing by taking away the H1 text and minimizing the text size. However, the first one created a new spacing issue where the logo wouldn't be easy seen from far away. The second one seen here solved that problem and gave us the opportunity to balance the image with logo's of the different database applications OtterTune uses.
The very last order of business was to replace the bullet points from dots to arrows. This change was made to represent action. OtterTune is actively saving time, reducing cloud costs, and improving performance for it's costumers.
